Democracy and rule of law must be established with the youth: Dr. Kamal Hossain

Dr. Kamal Hossain was the chief guest at a condolence meeting organized by Gono Forum at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon. The meeting was organized in memory of the late member of the Gono Forum Advisory Council Fazlul Haque Sarkar, member of the Presidium Council Kazi Mejbah Uddin and office secretary Rafiqul Islam.

At the meeting, Dr. Kamal Hossain said that countless people gave their lives in the July mass uprising. Many members of Gono Forum gave their lives in this movement.

Expressing his hope that Gono Forum will become stronger in the future with the good people of the society, Kamal Hossain said that the source of the organization’s strength is the unity of the people. Whenever there is disunity, the organization becomes weak. In such a situation, development in the society cannot be achieved.

BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan spoke at the condolence meeting. He said that there is a lack of understanding in the discussions about reforms, justice and elections. These are not alternatives to each other, but rather complement each other. There is no logic in holding elections for reforms and justice. Whoever comes to power, justice will be ensured for the wrongdoers. If justice is not served, a movement will be formed against them.

Referring to reforms as an ongoing process, Nazrul Islam Khan said that setting a time limit for justice cannot be a political demand. The consensus that is formed on reforms should be taken to the polls. He said that the people of this country have not been able to vote for many years. The youth have not been able to vote. If they are deprived of this right for a long time, injustice will be done to them.

Gano Forum General Secretary Mizanur Rahman, members of the Presidium Council Mezbah Uddin Ahmed, Subrata Chowdhury, SM Altaf Hossain and others spoke at the condolence meeting.
